Why Rubber Flooring?

Rubber is a great flooring option for home and commercial gyms.  Athletes and workout enthusiast choose rubber flooring mainly for its shock absorption qualities. It’s far easier on the joints than a hardwood or vinyl floor. Its function as an absorbent base is just one of the many attributes that make it ideal for workouts though. Rubber sports flooring has other positive reasons for you to install it in your home like:

  • Water resistant
  • Stain resistant
  • Odor resistant
  • Antimicrobial
  • Noise reducing
  • Low maintenance
  • Easy to clean

How to Clean Rubber Floors

You’re working hard to keep yourself physically fit, now it’s time to make sure you are taking care of the floors that support you during workouts. Establish a regular care and preventative maintenance routine based on the frequency of use. Weekly cleaning should be sufficient for a moderately used home gym and daily, if possible, at commercial gyms.

  1. Remove Dirt

Try your best to keep dust, dirt, and debris off rubber floors. Daily vacuuming, sweeping or swiffering is a great idea to keep dust from accumulating.

  1. Wash With a Mild Cleaner

Use a damp mop or cloth with a mild soap (like Dawn dish soap) and water solution to wipe floors clean. It’s important to NOT use too much water or any solvent or oil cleaners.

What NOT to Use to Clean Rubber Flooring

While rubber flooring is durable and tough, it is suspectable to damage by certain types of cleaners and chemicals. Harsh cleaners can dissolve rubber flooring over time. Do not use oil style cleaners like Pine-Sol, Lysol, Murphy’s Oil Soap, WD40, or paint thinner. Also, do not use bleach or ammonia on your rubber floors. Since they are naturally antimicrobial, they inhibit the growth of bacteria making heavy disinfecting unnecessary.

You made a great choice installing rubber flooring in your gym. Now make sure you’ll have them for years to come by cleaning them the correct way and you’ll get the most out of your rubber floors.
