Tips to Keep your Floors Clean over the Upcoming Months

Fall is just around the corner. That means the kids are back at school and cooler weather is upon us. In your home, your flooring should be prepared to take a beating during the cooler weather months. This blog will discuss what to expect and how to prepare your floors for the upcoming seasons.

Hardwood

Hardwood flooring expands and contracts depending on the weather and the humidity. During the cooler months, you may notice more gaping between boards. This is common and is to be expected. Your floors shrink in the cooler temperatures. Flowers Flooring recommends keeping your home set at a consistent temperature between 60-70 degrees. Before Fall arrives, it’s the perfect time to service your central heating system to be sure it is working properly for the winter months to come.

While we’ve seen rain throughout summer, we can expect more during the Fall. Hardwood and water do not mix well. If you don’t make your family remove their shoes in your home, prepare for the rain and mud by making sure you have area rugs at each entrance to your home. Flowers Flooring can bind rugs from remnants if needed. We also have a selection of area rugs ready for purchase at our showroom located in Cornelius, NC.

Carpet

Muddy, wet shoes and paws can lead to tough stains on your carpet. First and foremost, Flowers Flooring recommends wiping shoes and paws thoroughly before stepping onto your carpet. You may also want to consider having a shoe free home throughout the Fall and Winter months. During these months you and your family will be spending more time indoors, which means your carpeted areas are more prone to spills, crumbs, hair and debris. Throughout Fall and Winter, we recommend vacuuming more often and spot cleaning regularly. Spills will attract more dirt on your carpet, which can cause damage over time. Think about restricting eating or drinking on the carpet or add area rugs over the main areas where you and your family will be spending most of your time.

Luxury Vinyl Plank

Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) and Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) are virtually indestructible and are made to embrace the Fall and Winter months. These floor types have no problems enduring muddy shoes, dripping umbrellas or coats. More dirt and debris will accumulate on the floor so be sure to sweep and vacuum more often.

Flowers Flooring wishes everyone a smooth transition from summer into fall.
