Where’s Your New Floor Manufactured? Know Before You Buy!

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently released figures showing that people who purchased laminate imported from China from Lumber Liquidators are at a higher risk of cancer.
The CDC reported that formaldehyde levels in some selections of Lumber Liquidators’ laminate flooring could cause six to 30 cancer cases per 100,000 people. In addition to cancer, people exposed to the laminate flooring products in question are also susceptible to increased risks of exacerbated respiratory issues such as asthma and eye, nose, and throat irritation, the CDC said.
Know Before You Buy
Flowers Flooring recommends knowing exactly where your flooring is manufactured BEFORE you buy and have it installed. Flowers Flooring sells Shaw products, all of which are manufactured in the USA and meet the strictest standards.
“You want to purchase flooring that is safe for you and your family,” says William Coronado, Professional Flooring Installer for Flowers Flooring. “The last thing you want to invest in is flooring that can cause health problems. Do your research, work with a flooring company you can trust, and get the floor of your dreams.”
Laminate You Can Trust
The Lumber Liquidators laminate scare may have spooked some consumers into considering other flooring types; however, the benefits of safe laminate should be considered first. First and foremost, laminate can definitely save you a buck. It is less expensive than hardwood and often times cheaper than even carpet. It will also save you money in the long run because you won’t need to replace it for years. Unlike hardwood, marble, or carpet, laminate does not fade in the sunlight and is resistant to stains, impacts, and scratches.
Laminate flooring is a great fit for people with allergies because it’s easy to clean and does not absorb dust like carpet. It is also a very sanitary product due to its airtight locking system and plastic exterior, which creates a shield against moisture. Laminate does not contract or expand as hardwood does, but if moisture does penetrate the laminate and permanent damage is done, laminate floorboards can be easily replaced.
